Hello! Thanks for taking the time to visit my site. I believe that taking the time to get to know a potential employee is extremely important. As a result, I created this site to document parts of my life beyond a 1-page resume.

I am an aspiring Critical Care Nurse with a passion for seeing results. I have ICU experience as an RN, and am currently a cardiovascular nurse at the University of Utah. I am always learning and seek out new challenges. With a BS in Remote Rescue and a BSN, I am ready for a diverse set of work environments and adaptable to stressful situations.

Read on to get to know me, or click on one of the links at the top of the page!

Work Experience

I have worked in a diverse set of healthcare settings. I worked for Gold Cross Ambulance in Salt Lake City as an AEMT - responding to 911 calls in the City 2 area. This meant responding to MVCs, assaults, medical emergencies, and I learned to provide quality care in highly stressful and urgent situations.

After spending 2 years with Gold Cross, I moved to the University of Utah Hospital to work as a dual role MA II/AEMT in the outpatient Kidney Clinic. There I set the foundations of my clinical knowledge working with pre and post-kidney transplant patients. My responsibilities included lab draws, patient education, medication reconciliation, and responding to the occasional emergency.

I am currently employed at the University of Utah Hospital in Cardiovascular Acute Care. In CVAC I assess, monitor, and care for a variety of cardiovascular patients. Preop cardiac workups, postop cardiac care, and vascular surgery patients comprise the majority of patients seen in CVAC. Here, I’ve built skills with milrinone and dobutamine drips, valve replacements, coronary artery bypass grafts, temporary and permanent pacemakers, cardiac monitoring, wound vacs, fasciotomies, stents, and vascular grafts.

Previously I worked in the Salt Lake City VAMC as a Post-Baccalaureate Nurse Resident (PBNR) in a CCNE accredited residency. As a full time employee and resident, I rotated through units at varied durations as part of a ‘mini orientation.’ An important part of the residency involved a didactic portion. This included education specific to the care of veterans, a 10 week Emergency Department nursing course, and a 12 week ICU nursing course. Classes in safe patient handling, ultrasound IVs, nursing culture, and other soft skills were held once a week during this year long program.

Between Summer 2022 and Spring 2023 I worked as a VA-STEP Student (Formerly VALOR) at the SLC VAMC. At the only CCNE accredited student nurse residency program in the State of Utah, I spent over 400 hours in Telemetry, the OR, and the ICU gaining nursing skills. My program culminated with a capstone in the ICU where I began working with specialized nursing equipment, such as: ECGs, CRRT, IBAPs, ventilators, Impellas, pumps, LVAD/BIVAD/VADs, and CDUs. I also practiced cornerstone nursing skills like IV starts, medication administration, fluid resuscitation, insulin drips, vasoactive titration, and ET tube management.

VOlunteerism

Involvement in the community is extremely important to me and I make every effort to make the world a better place where I go.

I currently volunteer at Brighton Ski Resort as a Patroller during the winter. As a patroller I respond to a variety of medical calls - from simple assistance to emergencies and air evacuations. Getting to ski while helping others is one of my favorite things to do.

In 2023 I was involved with Wasatch Adaptive Sports (WAS) as a ski instructor assistant. At WAS I worked with Veterans and the mentally/physically disabled to provide a safe and fun experience skiing - while also pursuing the goals of the client. Some clients just want to experience snow for the first time while others refuse to let an amputation or disability get them down and seek out advanced and technical runs.

Over the years I have volunteered all over the world and at home for extended periods of time.

  • Over the course of 3 months I volunteered with Jatun Sacha in Colombia and Ecuador on an ecological reserve to protect animals and plants from poachers.

  • In the Galapagos I volunteered removing invasive species that threaten the delicate islands.

  • For 3 months in Peru I volunteered with Peru For Life to provide a safe space, food, and education for single, teen mothers. During this time, I spent nearly two months in Cuzco providing basic care for mothers in need.

  • In Quito, Ecuador I taught English in an inner city school while at the same time improving my own Spanish.

  • In Salt Lake City I volunteer with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to provide special education for refugees unfamiliar with basic household items here in the US.

  • I have volunteered in Primary Children’s Hospital, SLC in the E.D. guiding parents and patients through the unit, scrubbing toys for patients, and assisting with any needs.

I am currently involved with the Michael and Ina Korek Foundation as a Trustee. We have partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators to ensure that the public is educated and deterred from driving drunk. So far, our ad campaign has reached over 1 million people. With the foundation, I also volunteer my time seeking out charities in need of financial support. I review their finances and if they qualify part of my responsibilities include giving grants to further support their mission.

Education

Beginning in 2016 I took a year to travel and find a career I would be truly passionate about. While traveling South America, I enrolled in a 90 day expedition paddling over 250 miles of the Chilean Coast and crossing icefields in Patagonia with the National Outdoor Leadership School. 90 days turned into 180 as I enrolled in a subsequent course in Wilderness Medicine in Wyoming. There I reignited a dormant passion for healthcare that brought me to the University of Utah.

At the U, I majored in Remote Rescue under the College of Health Sciences. There I earned certifications in Advanced High Angle Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, Avalanche Rescue, AIARE II, and most importantly AEMT. After gaining experience in the field for 3.5 years, I decided it was time to return to school and widen my professional scope.

I attended Westminster College where I earned my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2023. After obtaining my RN license, I gained a position with the Salt Lake City VAMC as a Post Baccalaureate Registered Resident in the only accredited nurse residency program in the State of Utah. I have since moved on the University of Utah Hospital Cardiovascular Acute Care unit where I continue to further my nursing education.

Personal Pursuits

At home I lead an active life. My hobbies include skiing, fly fishing, kayaking and a myriad of other pursuits.

Additionally, I also find that giving back to the community fulfills me. I currently volunteer with Wasatch Adaptive Sports as an instructor’s assistance helping disabled children, adults, and veterans enjoy the wonder of skiing.

I do my best to stay fit and healthily manage the stress that comes with a career in healthcare.
